The picturesque island of Hydra is preparing for a Hollywood invasion as Brad Pitt is expected to arrive this spring for the filming of the highly anticipated film, The Riders.

Speaking on a Greek morning show on Thursday, the Mayor of Hydra, George Koukoudakis, confirmed that the international production is scheduled to film on the island from late February through mid-March.

“We are thrilled to welcome this major production,” the Mayor stated, noting Hydra’s storied past as a cinematic destination. “Hydra has a long history with the silver screen, having hosted the first-ever Hollywood production in Greece, Boy on a Dolphin starring Sophia Loren in 1957. It is no coincidence that the world’s top directors continue to choose Hydra for its unique, preserved natural environment.”

A Major Production for a Small Island The Mayor revealed that the production team is expected to bring several hundred crew members to the island. A meeting between municipal officials and the film’s representatives is scheduled shortly to coordinate logistics. “As a small island, we want to facilitate this production with all the resources and goodwill at our disposal. Hydra has a deep love for culture and the arts,” Koukoudakis added.

About the film: “The Riders”

The film is a cinematic adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Tim Winton. It boasts an elite creative team, directed by Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front) with a screenplay by David Kajganich. The project is a powerhouse collaboration between Scott Free Productions, Plan B, and A24.

Brad Pitt takes the lead role as Scully, a man who moves to Europe to start a new life with his wife and daughter. According to Deadline, the cast also features Emmy winner Julianne Nicholson and breakout star Coco Greenstone.

The story follows Scully as he painstakingly restores an old cottage in Ireland, only to have his life upended when his wife disappears, leading him and his young daughter on a desperate journey across Europe—including the sun-drenched landscapes of Greece.
