Greek islands continue to be among the top choices for newlywed couples worldwide, with Santorini and Mykonos making it to the top 25 in TripAdvisor’s 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards for Best Honeymoon Destinations.
These two Greek islands known for their breathtaking landscapes, luxurious accommodations and romantic atmospheres, are perfect for newlyweds seeking unforgettable experiences to enjoy their new life together.
Greek islands, an old-time favorite honeymoon destination
The iconic whitewashed buildings of Santorini, perched on dramatic cliffs overlooking the majestic Aegean Sea, are quite literally a dreamlike setting for couples. The island has been known for decades as a destination of romance, offering world-famous sunsets best enjoyed from the charming village of Oia or the caldera-edge towns of Fira and Imerovigli.
Trip Advisor suggests that on Santorini ”you’ll find peace as you roam the black sand beaches or the streets of a provincial village like Imerovigli. Beautiful Oia is world famous for its sunsets, which seem tinted with every shade of an artist’s palette.”
The other famous Greek island that made it to the list is Mykonos.
Known for its cosmopolitan vibe, Mykonos came 12th, offering a unique blend of relaxation, luxurious indulgence and traditional Greek beauty. Trip Advisor praises Mykonos, saying that it is ”the most popular Greek Island in the Aegean Sea,” and that it is all about ”energy.”
Trip Advisor also notes that Mykonos attracts a ”diverse and upscale crowd that thrives on its stylish nightlife.”
Mykonos and Santorini are by far the most recognizable names when it comes to Greek islands and therefore it comes as no surprise that they made it to the list of the best honeymoon destinations in the world.
Who else made it to the list
The number one destination, according to Trip Advisor, was Mauritius. Second came Bali and third the Maldives, showing once again the immense popularity of exotic destinations for honeymoons.
Hoi An in Vietnam and Phuket in the Philippines came fourth and fifth on this list.
Santorini was the top European destination, followed by Italy’s Florence, which finished eighth overall.
Other popular honeymoon destinations in Greece
Greece, of course, is not just Mykonos and Santorini. Although not on Trip Advisor’s list, places such as Corfu (Kerkyra), Milos, Folegandros, Hydra, Kefalonia, Skopelos and Paxos are among the most popular Greek island destinations for those who wish to escape following a hectic wedding ceremony.
From traditional stone mansions in narrow cobblestoned streets on Hydra to secluded squares and lush vegetation on Corfu, Greece offers numerous choices to those newlyweds who wish to visit this Mediterranean destination.
