Why Greece?
Well, for starters, Europe owes its name to the Ancient Greek mythological beauty Europa. Every year it is chosen as a perfect destination for refined travelers.
Greece is steeped in history, for the iconic Acropolis and the countless ancient ruins of the great Hellenic Civilization. Then it is the beautiful Greek islands sprinkled across the gorgeous blue Aegean Sea which battles with the Ionian Sea in the “which is the bluest” contest.
Then it is the perfect climate. With 300 days of warm sunshine and mild winters, the weather lures the traveler to seek as many landmarks as possible. Whether it is a sun-drenched island or a picturesque village on a green mountain, there are many choices to make.
And, of course, it is the food. Every year, Greek cuisine always ranks in the top three internationally and it is often in number one. Adding to that the Greek people’s warm hospitality, then a holiday in Greece is a no-brainer.
The Greek islands
Two Greek islands, Symi (number four) and Ikaria (number 10), are among the 10 most searched for cities and islands on Google in 2024 (list below). Conde Nast Traveller praises the two islands for their unique beauty.
Tenerife, Spain
Benidorm, Spain
Lanzarote, Spain
Symi, Greece
Fuerteventura, Spain
Ibiza, Spain
New York, USA
Mallorca, Spain
Sardinia, Italy
Ikaria, Greece
Symi dazzles the visitor from the moment the boat approaches the island. An amazing palette of two-and three-story traditional stone houses, painted in indigo, ochre, terracotta and other colors, with red tiled roofs and little balconies with ornate railings is the first unforgettable impression.
The beaches in Symi are as gleaming as the island’s architecture. Some of them are sandy, some of them are pebbly, some of them are situated on small islets around Symi (Agia Marina, Agios Emilianos, Nimos, Sesklia) but all of them are bathed by crystal clear waters.
Ikaria, on the other hand, combines sandy beaches, running waters, mountains and green hillsides its name. Ikaria is intertwined with Greek mythology and Ikarus. The thermal springs on the island are renowned for their chemical composition.
Many visitors are fascinated by the slow rhythm of the local lifestyle, along with the one of a kind work-rest schedule. No one and nothing is moving at a fast pace on Ikaria. This worry-free attitude is probably the secret of the Ikarians’ famous longevity.
Ikaria is famous for its local customs, fairs and festivals, especially on August 15 for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary feast where food, wine and local dances are prized by foreigners. Enjoy its beautiful gorges, swim in the crystal clear waters, savor the fresh fish and local specialties and be one of the locals during your stay.
