At a campaign event in Warren, Michigan, former President Donald Trump stated he would instruct the Justice Department to prosecute Google if re-elected president. Trump claims that the company is deliberately prioritizing negative articles about him in comparison to his election opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump took to his social network, Truth Social, to expand upon this feeling. In a post, the former President stated: “It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J Trump, some made up for this purpose while, at the same time, only revealing good stories about Comrade Kamala Harris.”

Trump claims Google is interfering in the elections

There was more to this post by the former President. Trump also added that this is an illegal activity and called for the Justice Department to criminally prosecute them for interfering in the elections.

The former President added, “…subject to the Laws of our Country, I will request their prosecution, when I win the Election and become President of the United States.”

Of course, in recent weeks, there may have simply been a greater number of negative rather than positive stories in general on Trump. However, it is unclear why he specifically targeted Google as the responsible entity for this, but the tech giants have responded.

Google said it has remained neutral and does not actively manipulate search results to benefit one candidate over another. The company stated that “both campaign websites consistently appear at the top of Search for relevant and common search queries.”

This is not the first time US conservatives complain over Google results

Conservatives and Trump supporters in the United States have consistently spoken out against Google search results and how these consistently benefit liberal media outlets and unfairly favor Democrats.

For instance, the rightwing Media Research Center, reportedly a media watchdog for conservatives, has spoken up about issues with Google in the past, claiming it allegedly helps Democrats.

Former President Trump’s campaign has also complained about Vice President Harris’ use of the Google “sponsored feature” on Google search results regarding the presidential candidate.

Some analysts claim that, in the past, Trump has promised to prosecute “opposers” if elected President. He has stated he will pursue lawyers, donors, and political operatives that engaged in the alleged 2020 election “fraud.”

Trump has also called for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to be prosecuted for not preventing the January 6th uprising on the Capitol.
