In an exciting development, the highly regarded British design studio Andy Waugh Yacht Design has unveiled a new idea for a catamaran called Decadence.
This concept draws inspiration from the remarkable progress made in the automotive and aeronautical industries during the 1920s. The aim is to capture the essence of that era while pushing the boundaries of modern design and engineering.
The studio claims that Decadence showcases the immense potential of the SWATH (Small-Waterplane-Area-Twin-Hull) hull form.
This unique catamaran design consists of submerged cylindrical hulls connected to a central structure by stilts. This configuration opens up exciting possibilities in terms of aesthetics that have yet to be fully explored in the luxury superyacht industry.
The futuristic hull design brings with it significant technological advancements. It is estimated that Decadence will experience approximately 70% less pitching and rolling movements compared to traditional single-hull superyachts.

With its width of 30 meters, the vessel boasts a substantial size of 5,000 gross tonnage (GT), offering vast interior spaces.
A remarkable feature of Decadence is the owner’s suite, which spans an impressive 20 meters in width, 30 meters in length, and 3 meters in height, showcasing the vessel’s grand scale. Moreover, each deck will include fully enclosed exterior areas, ensuring privacy and protection from unfavorable weather conditions.

To optimize space within the primary superstructure for guest accommodations, the crew quarters and technical areas are cleverly positioned in the sponsons and outer hulls.
The design studio has taken into account the challenge of finding suitable marina berths due to the vessel’s oversized width. Practical solutions have been implemented to address this concern.
The inherent stability of the hull design reduces the necessity to seek shelter during adverse weather conditions. Additionally, the concept includes provisions for two 14-meter chase-boat tenders from Skyline Yachts, which can serve as transfer shuttles to transport passengers to shore.
Energy-efficient design with the use of ‘wind power’
The visual representations of Decadence showcase an intriguing feature: retractable inflatable sails, indicating the possibility of using wind power.
Additionally, the yacht will incorporate a propulsion system that is projected to reduce energy consumption by around 30%, according to Andy Waugh Yacht Design.
