Grecian Delight supports Greece

After the game Tsitsipas said: “An epic match that’s all I can say, I gave everything, I am very proud. I am overwhelmed, too much, the stadium was on fire. It’s too good to be true. I knew it was going to get physical. It was important to have the crowd with me, and I feel like they were backing me up when things got tough. It was important to have that ambiance, thank you. I am very tired, I can barely speak right now.”

“¡Es demasiado bueno para ser verdad!”

In the previous round Tsitsipas overcame the resistance of Benoît Paire winning the match 3-1 (6-3, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4).

The Greek player who came into the event with some concerns about his elbow after surgery has proven that he is fit and raring to go.

Tsitsipas hopes to go a step further in Australian Open this year

Tsitsipas hopes to go better than his previous performance at the Australian Open where he reached the semi-finals in 2021.

Tsitsipas started his 2021 Australian Open campaign with a comfortable straight sets win over Gilles Simon, before surviving a five-set thriller with Thanasi Kokkinakis.

He then beat Mikael Ymer in straight sets before being given over a walkover by an injured Matteo Berrettini.

In the quarterfinals, Tsitsipas became only the second player along with Fabio Fognini at the 2015 US Open to beat Rafael Nadal in a grand slam match from two sets to love down.

He eventually lost in the semifinals to Daniil Medvedev.

This is a developing story
