In a shocking discovery in the Ampelokipoi district of Athens, authorities have dismantled an illegal farm operating on the 16th-floor rooftop of a building on Kifisias Avenue.

Greek police have filed a case against a local man and a property management company for violating animal protection laws.

While most people use their rooftops for laundry or solar panels, this Kifisias Avenue resident decided to build a literal barn in the sky.

Goats, chickens, and ducks at the rooftop farm in Athens

When police and animal welfare officers raided the premises following a citizen complaint, they didn’t find luxury lounge chairs. Instead, they were met by:

  • 10 goats and 3 young goats navigating the concrete heights.
  • 31 chickens providing a literal “morning wake-up call” to the entire neighborhood.
  • A flock of ducks and various other birds living in makeshift shacks.

The animals were living in squalid conditions within makeshift structures.

The birds have been relocated to the National Garden, while the larger animals were moved to a secure municipal facility for veterinary screening. Beyond animal cruelty charges, authorities are also investigating potential public health and urban planning violations.

The Municipality of Athens confirmed that while they encourage green initiatives, a 16th-floor goat ranch is where they draw the line. As the animals adjust to having actual grass under their hooves for the first time in perhaps years, the “Sky-Farm of Ampelokipoi” goes down as one of the strangest police reports in the city’s modern history.
