Elon Musk has once again expressed his admiration for Greek Cypriot Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Fidias Panayiotou in a post he made on Saturday night on X.

In a post (formerly known as tweets) that was posted on February 1, 2025, Musk urged his followers to “Vote for Fidias,” describing him as “smart, super high energy” and that he is a person who ”genuinely cares about you!”

This endorsement is the latest in a series of public interactions between Musk and Fidias Panayiotou, proof of their unique relationship of admiration.

The connection between Elon Musk and Fidias

The bond between Elon Musk, the influential entrepreneur, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and member of the Trump administration and Fidias Panayiotou dates back to January 2023 when Fidias, then the then YouTuber, famously camped outside Twitter’s headquarters for weeks in an effort to meet Musk.

His persistence paid off when Musk agreed to meet him, resulting in an emotional embrace that went viral online. This moment marked the beginning of a relationship that has since evolved from admiration to mutual political support.

Fidias is a controversial figure who has faithful supporters but also many critics.

Fidias went from social media fame to politics when he was elected as an independent MEP in 2024, in a shocking result for Cyprus during last year’s European Parliament Elections.

Known for his unconventional approach, Fidias has often aligned with Musk’s views on issues such as digital freedom and reducing bureaucracy.

For instance, Fidias has advocated for minimising regulatory control over online platforms, echoing Musk’s stance on free speech. Additionally, Fidias has proposed significant cuts in EU administrative staff, inspired by Musk’s restructuring strategies at Twitter and currently in DOGE, the newly-established Department of Government Efficiency.

Musk’s public endorsements of Fidias have been very frequent. In November 2024, he even suggested that Fidias should run for the presidency of the European Union (probably meaning the President of the European Commission.

These endorsements have amplified Fidias’s profile across Europe and the US, particularly among younger voters who like his innovative ideas and unconventional social media-driven approach to politics.

On Saturday Musk also reposted a video that Fidias uploaded on his X profile, quoting ”MEGA! Make Europe Great Again!”

It has to be noted though that Fidias’ outspoken positions on sensitive topics, such as reducing EU support for Ukraine, have sparked widespread debate, with Fidias’ critics accusing him of promoting Russian propaganda.

Fidias remains an Independent, however, his opponents accuse him of promoting the far-right agenda.
