The Greek island of Karpathos is getting the world’s attention as a top travel destination for 2025. The Dodecanese island is off the beaten track and perfect for travelers seeking authentic experiences and stunning landscapes.
According to CEO Today Magazine, “with stunning beaches and a stunning mountainous landscape that exudes raw beauty, Karpathos has managed to escape the “claws” of mass tourism, maintaining its charm as an untouched paradise. Festivals with traditional music and amazing gastronomy stand out.”
The Polish travel website travel2.pl published three special features on Karpathos, inviting lovers of Greece “to visit the picturesque villages of Karpathos and the town of Olympos perched on a hilltop. Admire the traditional stone houses, narrow cobblestone streets, and stunning views. The people of Olympos have maintained strong Byzantine traditions, evident in their customs and religious practices.
“Try the macaroons or ‘makarounes,’ as they are called…to be initiated into the traditions of the authentic destination of the Dodecanese,” travel2.pl says.
The distinctively shaped hand-rolled pasta known as “makarounes” is notably delicious. Prepared from elongated dough pieces cut into three-centimeter sections, they are firmly pressed with the fingers to create a central indentation before being left to dry. Once boiled, the pasta is smothered with sautéed onions and garnished with cheese.
Scandinavia’s largest online travel magazine Freedom Travel recommends Karpathos through videos and a series of articles which take the public to exotic beaches, nature activities, sea excursions, tours of picturesque settlements, and gastronomic delights.
Karpathos preserves customs other islands have lost
The Guardian commented recently:
“This remote and long self-sufficient community has preserved its customs where many islands lost theirs. Traces of ancient language remain in the dialect, and older women wear traditional dresses, headscarves and leather boots, carrying heavy loads on sticks across their shoulders and baking bread in outdoor wood-fired ovens. Men play an ancient form of bagpipes and sing improvised rhymes.”
The Municipality of Karpathos organized journalistic missions from Poland and Sweden in September with the aim of timely promotion for the new season. “Our goal is to develop strategic partnerships and promote different aspects of the destination that allow for visitor numbers before and after the high season,” emphasized the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of Karpathos, Tasos Milios.
In November 2023, global hospitality leader Hilton announced the opening of a new resort on Karpathos. The Sound of the Sea Karpathos, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is set to open in spring 2025.
Located on the quiet island of Karpathos, this boutique adults-only resort will offer a more intimate, authentic island experience. Under a franchise agreement with CHC Hotels, the resort will feature 43 rooms, including 14 with private pools and six with mini spas.
