As the National Republican Convention wraps up with Donald Trump as the Republican nominee, the Democrats are planning to announce Joe Biden as their presidential nominee for 2024 in the first week of August.

Democratic leadership will hold a virtual vote to formally make Joe Biden the party’s nominee for the 2024 presidential election. This will be done in a tense political climate due to criticism from within the party.

The Democrats are seemingly set on holding the vote before August 7th, which is the deadline for getting on Ohio’s presidential ballot.

Ohio is a concern for President Biden’s campaign

The Democratic convention is only opening on August 19th in Chicago. This means the nomination has to be made official almost 10 days before the convention opens.

This is especially significant regarding the state of Ohio. Republican lawmakers had an initial deadline of August 7th for the President to be on the ballot. This is why the Biden campaign has pressured the Democrats to get an early vote. The purpose of this is to prevent republican lawmakers from challenging President Biden’s appearance on the ballot in November.

This change of rules by Republican lawmakers aims to pressure the Democrats into deciding on Biden’s nomination. The Democratic party must nominate Joe Biden before August 7th to even have a candidate in Ohio.

Is Joe Biden going to be the Democratic candidate?

After his poor showing in the CNN debate, President Joe Biden is trying to convince the nation (and his party) that he is still a viable candidate for the 2024 election.

Despite his best attempts, President Joe Biden has been seemingly unable to convince voters and members of the Democratic leadership of his competence.

Kamrack explained that if the rule-making arm votes for a live nomination, President Joe Biden’s nomination could be overruled. However, if Biden were to be removed, the problem would once again be in Ohio. This is because Ohio law goes into effect on September 1st.

The polls suggest Democrats are turning on President Biden

On Wednesday, July 17th, the Associated Press released a very telling poll regarding the relationship between Joe Biden and the Democrats. The poll revealed that almost two-thirds of the Democrats think Biden should withdraw from the race.

It also revealed that only 3 in 10 Democrats believe Joe Biden has the cognitive capabilities to undertake another four years as president. It remains to be seen whether critical Democrats are going to be able to remove Biden from the candidacy. If they do, a crucial question remains: Who would be the Democrat nominee if Joe Biden was to drop out?
