The new ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle was honored on Sunday in an event sponsored by Greek American organizations to mark the inauguration of Donald Trump.
The event held at the luxurious St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C., was organized by Mike Manatos, President of the Manatos and Manatos lobby firm.
In a brief message, Guilfoyle said: “I love the country (Greece), it’s a blessing and a lifetime opportunity to be there.”
Prominent members of the Greek diaspora such as John Catsimatidis and Michael Psaros attended the event together with the Archbishop of America Elpidophoros.
Kimberly Guilfoyle and her access to Donald Trump
Kimberly Guilfoyle was accompanied by Greek American Christos Marafatsos who is working with Guilfoyle and has an insider’s view of the qualities she would bring to the ambassadorial role.
“Guilfoyle is set to become one of the most powerful and influential ambassadors to Greece in modern history,” he told Greek Reporter.
“Her unmatched access to President Trump, his cabinet, and senior policymakers ensures that Greece’s strategic importance will remain front and center in US foreign policy.”
Guilfoyle is expected to arrive in Athens to assume her responsibilities in late April to early May.
She is a former Fox News personality, who had been engaged to Donald Trump Jr. and is close to the Trump family.
“For many years, Kimberly has been a close friend and ally. Her extensive experience and leadership in law, media, and politics along with her sharp intellect make her supremely qualified to represent the United States, and safeguard its interests abroad,” Trump said.
“Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation,” he added.
In a statement following the announcement, Guilfoyle said she was honored to accept the president-elect’s appointment.
Who is Kimberly Guilfoyle, the next US Ambassador to Greece
Guilfoyle is a former co-host of Fox News’ “The Five” and was an assistant district attorney at the San Francisco and Los Angeles district attorneys’ offices before beginning her media career.
She abruptly left her position on Fox News in July 2018 and later served as the Trump campaign’s finance chair during his 2020 presidential bid. She later became a key witness to the events leading up to the US Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, and met with the House select committee investigating the insurrection in 2022.
In mid-2019, Guilfoyle and Trump Jr. jointly purchased a $4.4 million home in The Hamptons. They sold it in March 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic for $8.14 million.
Also in March 2021, the couple jointly purchased a $9.7 million home in Jupiter, Florida. Guilfoyle and Trump became engaged on December 31, 2020. The news of the engagement was not made public until January 2022. Since 2021, Guilfoyle and Trump Jr. have cohabitated in their Jupiter residence.
Donald Trump Jr. posted in support of Guilfoyle on X. “I am so proud of Kimberly. She loves America and she always has wanted to serve the country as an Ambassador. She will be an amazing leader for America First,” he said.
