Greek-American Nick Adams has been appointed Special Presidential Envoy for American Tourism, Exceptionalism, and Values, serving as a Senior Advisor within the State Department. His mandate includes promoting American values and tourism internationally.

Adams is of Greek descent through his father. While he was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, he grew up in a household that maintained strong ties to Greek culture and traditions.

Adams, a vocal supporter of Trump, was elected to Sydney’s inner-west Council of Ashfield in 2004 and became Australia’s youngest deputy mayor the following year.

During his time on the council, there were some controversies, including a standoff with local media that led to threats of the suspension of the Liberal Party. He resigned in 2012 and later moved to the US, becoming a citizen in 2021.

Nick Adams and his Greek roots

His surname was originally Adamopoulos. Like many immigrants to English-speaking countries, his family eventually shortened or anglicized the name to “Adams,” a common practice for Greek families in both Australia and the United States.

He frequently refers to himself as a “proud Greek-American” and often uses his Greek roots to claim a “lineage of liberty,” arguing that ancient Greece provided the intellectual blueprint for the American experiment. He often weaves Greek history into his political commentary. It is common to hear him reference Leonidas, the 300 Spartans, or the concept of Philotimo when discussing American patriotism.

In his 2016 memoir “Green Card Warrior: My Quest to Legalize My American Dream“, Adams discusses his Greek heritage, his family’s immigration to Australia, and the shortening of the family name. He explicitly links the “Hellenic spirit” to his political philosophy.

Conservative commentator

The State Department describes Adams as “an accomplished author, freelance political analyst and independent political commentator.”

In 2020, President Trump appointed him to the Board of Trustees of the Woodrow Wilson Center in the Smithsonian Institution for a six-year term.

In July 2025, President Trump nominated Nick Adams for the prestigious role of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Malaysia. Because the nomination was never confirmed by the U.S. Senate, it technically lapsed at the end of 2025.

Adams is currently Executive Director of the Texas and Florida-based Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness (FLAG), a non-profit organization that teaches civics and informs parents and students on the power of the American Dream. He also runs 1A Warriors, an organization dedicated to codifying the civil rights of Americans who honorably exercise their peaceful 1st Amendment rights.
