Preparatory studies for the establishment of the National School of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts in Greece have officially been completed. This milestone follows a strategic agreement between the Ministry of Culture and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) with a budget of €327,000 (over $385,000), the project focuses on the scientific documentation and architectural design of what will be Greece’s first public educational institution dedicated exclusively to professional training for film and audiovisual technicians.
National School of Cinema: A pillar for culture
“The completion of these studies marks a decisive first step toward founding the National School of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts. This institution is a cornerstone of our strategy to bolster the audiovisual sector,” Culture Minister Lina Mendoni stated.
“Our goal is to create a high-level, modern public institution that provides the specialized knowledge and practical training necessary to make Greek productions internationally competitive.”
Curriculum and infrastructure
The project outlined the school’s core structure and developed detailed curricula for various specializations within the film industry. These studies also determined the technical requirements for building infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring the school meets modern global academic and professional standards.
The academy will offer specialized vocational training in key sectors, such as:
- Film Production
- Cinematography
- Editing & Post-Production
- Sound Engineering
- Animation
Strengthening the workforce
By combining theoretical education with hands-on practice, the school aims to fill a long-standing gap in the Greek public education system.
The Ministry of Culture is now moving toward the implementation phase, utilizing these studies to ensure the creation of a modern institution that serves the broader public policy for the development of the Greek creative economy.
