Greece Smashes Airport Passenger Traffic Records in 2019

The Civil Aviation Authority of Greece released the latest data on Thursday measuring passenger traffic through Greek airports for the months of January and February, 2019.

According to the data, total passenger traffic through Greek airports grew by an impressive 10.7 percent, breaking yet another record for the country’s airports.

4,237,786 passengers flew through Greek airports during the first fifty-nine days of this year, in comparison to a total of 3,828,882 people who traveled during the same period in 2018.

The total number of flights through all Greek airports was 42,972 in the months of January and February, of which 25,274 were domestic flights and 17,698 international.

This number is also up by 11.3 percent, compared to the same period in 2018.

In February, passenger traffic grew by 11.8 percent, reaching the figure of 2,075,663, while the number of flights totaled 20,330.

International passenger arrivals to Greek airports totaled 549,411 in February, representing a huge increase of 12.9 percent over last year.

Airports for the cities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania and Rhodes recorded the busiest passenger traffic in February.

The Kefalonia airport, on the eponymous island in the Ionian Sea, recorded the largest percentage increase in January and February compared to the same months of 2018, up by a whopping 61.7 percent.

Kefalonia’s air traffic numbers were followed by the Aegean island of Milos, which saw an impressive increase of 59.7 percent in their air traffic, and Mykonos, which saw a bump of 58 percent in traffic.
