Greece ranks among the top vacation destinations for travelers from Canada, Australia, and the United States this summer, according to a recent survey conducted by Greece’s Insete tourist organization.

The findings were part of Insete’s study called “The profile of important tourism markets for Greece: USA, Canada, China, India, Australia.”

The Mediterranean nation finds itself in the top 15 most sought-after vacation spots for travelers from these countries.

More precisely, for Canadian tourists, Greece is the 11th most popular choice. Canadians who visit Greece are expected to stay for at least a week. More than 43 percent of them have declared in Insete’s survey that they prefer vacations that are at least a week long.

On the other hand, Australians place Greece 10th on their list of preferred tourist destinations. The Aussies are likely to spend even more days in Greece than the Canadians, with 62 percent of them saying they would like to spend more than seven days at their destination.

As for American travelers who cross the Atlantic, Greece ranks 12th in terms of preferred vacation hotspots. US tourists are expected to spend less time in Greece on vacation than are Canadians and Australians. Only 34 percent of US travelers said they like to spend more than a week at a single destination.

These figures show Greece has steadily become one of the top choices for tourists from the English-speaking world outside of Europe. There is potential of bringing in large revenues, as these tourists normally stay longer than their European counterparts. They therefore also spend more. As is understandable, following the ten-year-long financial crisis that ravaged Greece from 2009 to 2018, this can be a substantial boost for the Greek economy.

Greece also among top 10 vacation destinations for US Independence Day

Greece and, in particular, its capital Athens will most probably see an influx of American tourists from July 3rd to July 7th, as Americans celebrate their Independence Day on July 4th.

The top destination for US travelers for the beginning of July is Vancouver in Canada. This is followed by London, which is in second place, and Rome in third. Other popular destinations include Dublin, Paris, Calgary, Amsterdam, Punta Cana, and Barcelona.

According to insurance providers Allianz Partners, the number of US citizens traveling to Europe is expected to increase this summer. US tourism to Europe will soar by a staggering 34 percent over the year. Athens is listed in the top 10 vacation destinations for those willing to spend a few days abroad to celebrate the most important US holiday of the year.

The AAA report also shows air travel is expected to reach unprecedented highs this year. It indicated that the number of travelers from the US heading abroad for vacation is due to reach 5.74 million. This is an increase of nearly seven percent compared to last year and twelve percent in relation to pre-pandemic 2019 levels.

Seven out of ten US tourists, the report conveys, are choosing destinations in Europe. There is a strong interest in historic cities and pristine beaches, making Greece a powerful contender next to traditionally sought-after destinations like Paris, London, and Rome.
