Former Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras recently met with US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle during a reception attended by several American officials.
Greek media report, citing Samaras’ inner circle, that the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, with the two engaging in a lengthy and friendly discussion. Four US cabinet members from the Trump administration were also present in Athens for ongoing energy-related talks.
Remarks on US Greece Relations and Donald Trump
In a televised interview, Samaras addressed the current state of relations between Greece and the United States, as well as his perspective on US President Donald Trump.
Although he clarified that he has not met Trump personally, Samaras noted, “I do have relationships with members of his team.”
Describing Trump as “a unique personality who operates outside conventional boundaries,” the former prime minister highlighted several aspects of his leadership that he considers significant.
Former PM Samaras and Guilfoyle Highlight Common Ground on Energy and Migration
Samaras praised Trump for “restoring the crucial value of hydrocarbons in the global energy sector,” a subject of particular importance to Greece.
He also acknowledged Trump’s efforts to strengthen US border security amid escalating migration challenges—an issue that Samaras pointed out is now affecting all of Europe.
Opposition to the Woke Agenda by Former PM Samaras
Further, Former Greek Prime Minister, credited Trump with challenging what he called “the disastrous woke agenda for the West,” emphasizing his appreciation for the former president’s international initiatives, including the recent agreement concerning the Gaza Strip.
“At the level of ideas, I share common ground with him on several issues,” Samaras said. “Take the woke agenda, for example. On topics such as migration and energy, I have been speaking publicly about these challenges in Greece and across Europe since 2009.”
Samaras’s remarks underline his continued engagement in global political discourse and his alignment with a more traditional and pragmatic worldview that emphasizes energy independence, border security, and the preservation of Western values.
