Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan planned to meet in New York on Tuesday, but Ankara requested a postponement. Erdogan chose instead to attend a high-profile summit of Arab and Muslim leaders convened by US President Donald Trump.

The talks had been set for Tuesday evening at Turkey’s diplomatic headquarters in Manhattan. Turkish officials informed Athens of the conflict, and both sides now work to identify a new slot during UN General Assembly week.

Trump Hosts Leaders on Gaza Crisis

Trump convened leaders and senior officials from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan to discuss the Gaza conflict.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the agenda focused on Washington’s post-war strategy for Gaza.

Trump and his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, plan to unveil a roadmap for governance and reconstruction, shaped with input from former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair.

US Plan: Post-War transition without Hamas

The US blueprint calls for the release of hostages, an Israeli withdrawal, and a new governance system in Gaza without Hamas. Washington also urges Arab and Muslim states to send peacekeeping forces and provide financial backing for reconstruction.

“This meeting could be quite significant,” a US official told Axios. “We believe we have the outline of the only viable path forward, but it requires regional buy-in and support.”

An Arab diplomat confirmed the request: “Trump wants our feedback and our endorsement for the US plan to end the war.”
