Greece’s National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an emergency bulletin of dangerous weather phenomena brought on by a storm, which will impact most of the country on Wednesday (April 1) and Thursday (April 2).

The low-pressure system in the Western Mediterranean, named Erminio, is forecast to bring prolonged, high-intensity rainfall, heavy thunderstorms, and localized hail.

Storm warnings for Wednesday, April 1

A secondary surface low will form over Libya and move north-northeast rapidly, triggering severe conditions. Eastern Greece will face powerful east-southeast winds of 8–9 Beaufort, reaching 10 Beaufort in the Dodecanese. Heavy snowfall is expected in the mountains of Epirus and Macedonia.

Red Alert Areas (Highest Risk):

  • Attica (Athens): From late morning through the evening
  • Eastern Peloponnese, Eastern Central Greece, Evia, Thessaly, and the Sporades: From late morning until late at night
  • Dodecanese: Beginning in the afternoon

Orange Alert Areas

  • Ionian Islands: Starting from the early morning hours
  • Cyclades (primarily North) & East Aegean Islands (Chios and southward): From the afternoon through late night

Storm warnings for Thursday, April 2

The system will continue to produce dangerous conditions in the following regions:

Red Alert Areas:

  • Western and Southern Peloponnese: From the morning until late at night
  • Crete (primarily West and South): From midday until late at night
  • Dodecanese: During the early morning hours and again from late afternoon

Orange Alert Areas

  • Eastern Thessaly (Larissa, Magnesia, Sporades): From the early morning until noon
  • Central Macedonia (Pieria, Imathia, Halkidiki, Serres): From the morning until late afternoon
  • East Aegean Islands: Starting from late afternoon
