Pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter might have helped get New York City Mayor Eric Adams indicted on federal corruption charges.
The mayor of the Big Apple got indicted on five federal charges related to bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy, and soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals.
These allegations can be traced all the way back to 2014, when he was Brooklyn Borough President.
So what does Sabrina Carpenter have to do with all this? The first thing to know is that Carpenter is currently starting her Short ‘n’ Sweet tour. The pop star is known for her adlibs and conversational attitude toward concertgoers during her shows. During the New York show on September 29th, she surprised fans by asking if they’d like to talk about a puzzling topic.

It was during one of her usual adlibs that she popped the question. This line was met with thunderous noise by concertgoers, and the singer could be seen visibly enjoying herself, as she quickly burst into laughter and turned her head away.
Two questions arise from Carpenter’s joke in the concert. The first one is, did she actually help indict the mayor? The second is…if she did, how did she do so?

The answer to both questions is more likely than not negative as in she did not actually help indict the mayor and didn’t really have much to do with the whole situation after all.
However, there is a bit of truth to this joke. Federal investigators who indicted the mayor are in fact looking at possible business dealings at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, which is the Williamsburg, Brooklyn church that was used to film Sabrina Carpenter’s “Feather“ music video.
It was widely reported that the church had in fact received a subpoena requesting information about financial and business dealings between the mayoral chief of staff and the church’s monsignor.
Carpenter’s involvement with the mayoral chaos is in fact quite limited
In reality, this was nothing but a joke that Sabrina Carpenter cracked in her New York show with her fans, but the fact that she shot the music video at that church did have some repercussions.
For instance, the church’s monsignor, Jamie Gigantiello, was in fact demoted in 2023 after Carpenter shot the music video in the church. He has gone on the record stating that he regrets the decision and that he was unaware of the video’s contents.
Now, pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter will continue her extremely successful Short ‘n’ Sweet tour, which kicked off on September 23rd in Columbus, Ohio.
Carpenter will tour around the United States and Canada until November 18th and then will kick off the European tour in March 2025, when she will make notable stops in London, Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam.
