Athens Offers Free Guided Tours Throughout March 2026

The City of Athens is offering a series of free guided tours throughout March 2026, inviting both residents and international visitors to explore the Greek capital’s rich historical and cultural heritage.

Organized in collaboration with the Athens Association of Licensed Guides, the program includes themed walking tours, archaeological site visits, museum tours, and special interest experiences across the city. Participants can discover Athens through structured routes that highlight its ancient landmarks, Byzantine and Ottoman history, neoclassical architecture, philosophy, and contemporary art.

Each tour has a designated meeting point, date, and time, with participation limited to a set number of attendees.

Free guided archaeological and historic tours across Athens

The program features guided tours of major archaeological sites, including the Ancient Agora and Aristotle’s Lyceum, as well as themed walks around the historic center and the hills surrounding the Acropolis.

Visitors can explore Byzantine Athens, Ottoman-era landmarks, and architectural evolution from Syntagma Square to the Hilton district. Additional walking experiences include the Kyrrhestos Clock route at the Roman Agora, philosophy tours in the Ancient Agora, and a street art and graffiti tour in Psyrri.

The Athens First Cemetery will also host a guided visit focusing on its open-air sculpture collection, while the National Garden will offer a historical walking tour later in the month.

Museum highlights

Several of Athens’ major museums are included in the initiative. Guided visits will take place at the Benaki Museum, the National Gallery, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Numismatic Museum housed in the historic Ilion Melathron, and the Alekos Fassianos Museum in Metaxourgeio.

Special exhibitions featured this month include “Los Caprichos” by Francisco Goya at the National Gallery and “Why Look at Animals?” at the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The Tsiller–Loverdos Mansion and the Museum of Modern Greek Culture are also part of the program.
