Athens Christmas Village to host major concerts

The Attica Region has planned an impressive series of six-holiday concerts featuring renowned Greek artists paying tribute to legendary musicians of the country. The celebration began a few days ago with a touching tribute to composer Mimis Plessas, featuring his original orchestra. Plessas passed away at the age of 99 in October this year.

Mimis Plessas was among the most important and prolific Greek composers. He crossed from jazz to light music to laika to artistic folk to movie themes with characteristic ease.  From an early age, he stood out with his talent in Greece and internationally.

The upcoming performances include “Songs in Gros Plan” with Pantelis Thalassinos and Pavlina Voulgaraki, and a special showcase of urban songs from the 1930s and 1940s featuring artists like the beloved actor Giannis Bezos and Tania Tripi.

The Athens Christmas Village offers more than music

Visitors can enjoy a state-of-the-art ice rink and a grand carousel, which are perfect for family entertainment and have lots of fun for children and adults alike!

The village comes alive with street artists, saxophonists and dance groups performing on two smaller stages, creating an atmosphere of celebration in every corner of Athen’s Pedion tou Areos (Field of Mars).

The Athens Christmas Village is open from 4:30 PM to 10 PM on weekdays and 10 AM to 10 PM on weekends local time.

This makes sure that more people can visit the village during the weekends, when most Athenians don’t work and can enjoy a beautiful stroll around the magical Christmas village of the capital.

The events also feature educational programs and art events that engage visitors of all ages and offer useful and meaningful entertainment to children and older audiences.

A particular highlight is the December 29th concert “Childhood Innocence Through the Songs of Iconic Artists,” where famous and popular Greek performers will bring to life beloved compositions from Greece’s most popular artists.

The village will host a special performance honoring Dimitris Mitropanos on December 30th, and a final tribute to Sotiria Bellou, Poly Panou, and Vicky Moscholiou on January 4th.

It has to be noted that all events and activities of the Athens Christmas village are offered free of charge to its visitors.
