While rumors of their own impending nuptials continue to swirl, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce stole the spotlight this weekend in Athens, serving as the ultimate “VIP wedding guests” for the marriage of Kansas City Chiefs star George Karlaftis.

The Greek-born defensive end, known affectionately as “Furious George,” tied the knot with his longtime partner, Kaia Harris, in a stunning three-day celebration that perfectly blended “Greek soul” with international glamour.

Karlaftis brings the Chiefs kingdom to Athens

George Karlaftis, who recently signed a massive $88 million contract extension with the Chiefs, returned to his roots for the ceremony. The event took place at the ultra-luxurious One&Only Aesthesis resort on the Athenian Riviera.

Despite his rising status as an NFL superstar, Karlaftis ensured the wedding remained an intimate affair centered on family and Greek tradition. However, the presence of his teammate Travis Kelce and pop icon Taylor Swift added a layer of global excitement that the Greek media has dubbed the “Midas touch” of Karlaftis.

A sporting tradition runs in the family of George Karlaftis. His father, Μathiós, or “Matthew”, a javelin thrower, was a star athlete in track and field at the University of Miami.

It was in Indiana that George, who played many sports in Greece, fell in love with American football. In Greece, he excelled in swimming, track and field, water polo, basketball, and soccer. Whilst attending West Lafayette High School, George continued to excel at track and field, particularly at the shot put in track and field but it was during this time he was also introduced to American football.
