Georgetown University is moving ahead with plans to establish graduate programs in Greece in partnership with Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC), the country’s largest electric company. The university has filed an application with the Greek Ministry of Education to create a University Legal Entity that will operate as a non-state higher education institution.

If approved, the proposed entity, “Georgetown University Greece – University Legal Entity,” will begin operations in the 2026–2027 academic year. Specifically, officials expect the first cohort of students to enroll in October 2026.

Georgetown University graduate programs planned for Greece

As outlined in the application, Georgetown University intends to introduce two graduate programs in Greece.

The first, the Executive Master’s in Leadership, offered through the McDonough School of Business, will target senior professionals seeking to strengthen leadership and strategic decision-making skills in a rapidly evolving global environment. In addition to core management training, the program emphasizes values-based leadership and organizational effectiveness.

The second, the M.S. in Environment and Sustainability Management, brings together the McDonough School of Business and Earth Commons, Georgetown’s Institute for Environment and Sustainability. The curriculum combines environmental science with business strategy, equipping professionals to lead sustainability initiatives within their organizations.

Together, the two programs will primarily serve Greek senior executives, including members of the PPC Group.

Accreditation and academic structure in Greece

Both degrees carry accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, the international body that sets global benchmarks for business education. As a result, students in Greece will follow academic standards consistent with those at Georgetown’s main campus.

Georgetown University will offer courses in Athens in English and design the structure to accommodate working professionals. While students will complete most coursework in Greece, they will also travel to Washington, DC, for an intensive on-campus session and graduation ceremony.

Overall, if regulators grant approval, the initiative will formally position Georgetown University within Greece’s higher education landscape and further strengthen the presence of US universities in the country.
