A police investigation is ongoing for the mysterious death of an Israeli citizen, reportedly a film producer, in an Athens hotel on Sunday.

The woman, reportedly aged 53, was found by her brother who was searching for her after she had given no signs of life.

The victim had been staying at the hotel near Athens Syntagma Square, off Ermou Street, at the heart of the Greek capital, since February 4.

The alarm was raised on Sunday when the woman’s brother, concerned after she failed to respond to his repeated calls, arrived at the hotel to check on her well-being. Upon entering the room, he discovered his sister unresponsive, leading to an immediate call to emergency services.

While the presence of various medications near the body led investigators to initially consider suicide as the primary cause of death, the scene remains shrouded in mystery.

Forensic experts shifted their focus after a preliminary examination revealed suspicious bruising on the victim’s neck and hands. These physical marks have prompted authorities to treat the case as a potential homicide, pending further evidence.

The Greek police have ordered an exhaustive post-mortem examination and a toxicology screening to provide a clearer picture of the circumstances.

Meanwhile, detectives are reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel corridors and interviewing staff and guests to determine if any unauthorized individuals entered the room in the hours leading up to the tragic discovery.
