A British couple has described their ordeal after three rescue kittens were allegedly lost in transit on an Aegean Airlines flight from Crete to Paris. This is the second such incident for the airline, following the disappearance of a kitten named Rodri on a flight from Crete to Munich in March 2024.

Bethany Mulcahy-Stephenson, a vet, and her husband, Adam, had rescued the cats in Crete and arranged for them to be flown to Paris, where the couple would pick them up. However, as they were en route to Calais, they learned from a contact that the airline had “lost” the kittens.

The cats had arrived in Paris but were not unloaded, reportedly left “somehow forgotten” in the hold as the plane flew back to Thessaloniki. After two days of distress, the airline agreed to fly the kittens back to Paris.

Bethany said the cats were “absolutely traumatised” upon arrival and had to be taken to an emergency vet. The couple says they still have not received a proper explanation or apology from Aegean Airlines.

In a statement, Aegean Airlines said the cats were “never lost at any time” and were not immediately disembarked “due to operational reasons.” The airline stated that the kittens continued their journey under the care of the crew and were safely reunited with their guardians that same evening.
