Lena Samaras, Daughter of Former Greek PM, Dies at 34

Lena Samaras, the 34-year-old daughter of former Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, has died following a seizure.

Samaras, who had a history of epileptic seizures, was a civil engineer. She died after suffering a seizure while undergoing medical evaluations at a hospital. Despite the doctors’ efforts to revive her for 50 minutes, they were unsuccessful.

Lena Samaras was a graduate of City University, London, where she studied civil engineering. She was also a talented tennis player who participated in a program for the 2008 Beijing Olympics while in college.

She was a constant presence by her father’s side, supporting him during his time as Minister of Culture and later as the President of the New Democracy party.

Tributes and condolences for Lena Samaras

The Greek political community has expressed an outpouring of grief and condolences to the Samaras family.

In a social media post, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described the loss as a shock. “Every word proves to be small and weak in the face of the magnitude of such mourning,” he wrote, adding, “The sudden and so unjust loss of Lena Samaras shocks us all. Our thoughts are with Antonis and Georgia. Their pain, our pain. Courage…”

Other political leaders, including PASOK President Nikos Androulakis and SYRIZA-PS President Socrates Famellos, also shared their deepest condolences and wished the family strength during this difficult time.
