Netflix’s Kaos, the Greek mythology-inspired comedy series that was released in August, has been canceled after one season. The show starred Jeff Goldblum as Zeus in a more lighthearted fashion, and its premise had Zeus chaining up Prometheus after he tried to overthrow his rule over humanity.

The main characters of the series were largely inspired by Greek mythology. Netflix’s Kaos featured Janet McTeer as Hera, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Rakie Ayola as Persephone, Killian Scott as Orpheusm, and Leila Farzad as Ariadne. It also featured Aurora Perrineau as Eurydice and Stephen Dillane as Prometheus.

Netflix’s Kaos received criticism for its ambitious storyline despite being in Netflix’s top 10

One of the main criticisms Netflix’s Kaos endured was that it failed to deliver a good story because it was too ambitious. The show had several storylines that seemed to stand alone at first but eventually “crashed” into each other near the season finale.

Another criticism the show endured is that the Greek gods rarely used their powers in interesting ways, which is presumably why viewers tuned in to the show in the first place.

Despite Kaos being criticized for its storyline, it spent four weeks in the Netflix top 10 charts after its release, but it did not gather a significant audience in that time. Kaos peaked at number three on the English TV chart during its second week on Netflix, with its peak audience being 14.9 million.

According to Nielesen’s streaming ratings, as of September 8th, Kaos had 3.34 million viewers in the United States. It is worth noting, however, that Netflix defines views on a show as the total runtime divided by the total hours viewed by users.

Aurora Perrineau initially broke the news to fans

Aurora Perrineau, who was one of the leads of Kaos, broke the news of the show’s cancelation through an extensive and heartfelt Instagram post in which she revealed that she found “explaining how she was feeling very difficult.”

She said, “When I started auditioning for this show, I knew it was special, mainly due to the fact that Charlie Covell’s scripts resonated with me in a way most things hadn’t. I knew all of these people, and I loved them all – every flaw, everything.”

Additionally, she talked about how proud she is to be a part of the project, as well as how unbelievable it was for her to be “worthy” of the role. You can find her entire statement here.
