A 3,300-year-old Egyptian scroll housed at the British Museum is drawing new attention from historians and researchers who say the writings could support ancient accounts of giants mentioned in the Bible.

The document, known as Anastasi I, contains descriptions of unusually tall people, prompting some to reconsider long-debated stories from the Old Testament.

The Egyptian writings, believed to date back to the 13th century BC, refer to encounters with the Shosu, a group described as fierce and towering. According to the scroll, some members of this group stood between four to five cubits tall, which researchers interpret as approximately eight feet.

The description also notes that these individuals were aggressive and unresponsive to negotiation, stirring fear among those who encountered them.

Connections between Egyptian writings and biblical giants

Scholars from the Associates for Biblical Research, a religious organization based in Pennsylvania, have taken a renewed interest in the scroll. The group believes that the reference to the Shosu may align with biblical mentions of powerful, giant-like figures known as the Nephilim.

These beings, described in Genesis chapter 6, were said to be the offspring of fallen angels and human women. Their presence was linked to widespread violence, leading to a divine decision to flood the Earth and start over.

The Bible later refers to these figures in Numbers 13:33, where the Israelites describe seeing the sons of Anak, believed to be descendants of giants. The verse notes that the Israelites felt like grasshoppers by comparison, emphasizing the overwhelming size and strength of those they encountered.

Skepticism persists despite growing public interest

The connection between the Egyptian scroll and these biblical accounts remains speculative.

The British Museum has kept the Anastasi I document in its collection since 1839, but only recently has it been reexamined through the lens of biblical archaeology. The renewed analysis was first brought into public view by the Daily Mail.

While the link between the Egyptian writings and biblical giants continues to intrigue researchers, many historians remain cautious. They point out that no verified physical or archaeological evidence has been found to prove that giants existed in ancient times.

Unconfirmed reports of giant skeletons in Nevada

Outside Egypt, similar claims persist in other regions. In one case from Nevada, reports surfaced of red-haired, pale-skinned giants believed to have lived near a town northeast of Reno.

Some accounts say miners once discovered around 60 human skeletons in the area, some reportedly measuring between seven and eight feet tall. These claims, like others, remain unconfirmed but continue to stir scientific and public curiosity.
